Lathyrus

Lathyrus (grass pea/khesari) is an important Rabi pulse cultivated mainly in Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. It performs well under drought, waterlogging, and residual soil moisture conditions, making it a reliable crop in rainfed areas.
The crop is grown for both grain and fodder. Its protein-rich seeds serve as an affordable source of nutrition, while the crop provides quality fodder for livestock.
As a legume, Lathyrus fixes atmospheric nitrogen through root nodules, improving soil fertility and benefiting succeeding crops in crop rotation systems.

Why Your Lathyrus Needs Phosphorus?

Promotes root growth
& nodulation

Phosphorus encourages strong root development and enhances biological nitrogen fixation, leading to vigorous early crop growth.

Improves flowering
& seed yield

Adequate phosphorus supports better flowering, pod formation, seed filling, and ultimately higher grain yield.

Enhances nutrient-use
efficiency

Basal application of phosphorus improves nutrient uptake, crop vigour, and productivity, particularly in residual moisture and low-fertility soils where Lathyrus is commonly grown.
